Associated Risks
Individuals with prediabetes are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Those with IGT or IGT/IFG are at particularly high risk of developing diabetes. Prediabetic individuals are also at increased risk of vascular damage and dysfunction, and ultimately CVD. Evidence also suggests that CVD risk is more closely associated with IGT than IFG.

Individuals with dysglycaemia are at increased risk of having other metabolic disorders, or of having metabolic syndrome.
Metabolic syndrome is thought to exist in 50% of individuals with IGT.
 

New Guidelines

The new ESC-EASD Guidelines on Diabetes, Prediabetes and Cardiovascular Diseases were presented at the implementation meeting in Nice end of June.
